C5I Center and EMP Shield Tech Lab Announce Partnership and MOU

 

16 April 2024:

As part of the 2024 STAR-TIDES event that took place at Mason Square on George Mason University’s Arlington Campus, Mr. Takuma Kawasugi, CEO of EMP Shield Tech Lab, and Dr. Paulo Costa, Director of George Mason’s Center of Excellence in Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Cyber and Intelligence (C5I) ceremonially exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations that was fully executed on the 4th of April. The future collaboration enabled by this agreement will achieve higher levels of understanding between academia, industry, and government stakeholders, stimulate research, and promote scientific events, conferences, and other activities of an academic character.

EMP Shield Tech Lab is a private Japanese lab located in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, that focuses on protection against Electromagnetic Pulses (EMP).  The facility researches electromagnetic waves and develops innovative products that will be needed in the future.

The C5I Center at George Mason is the nation’s first university-based center offering a comprehensive academic and research program in Military/National Security applications of information technology and cyber security. The Center’s mission focuses on aligning requirements between government, industry, and academia. The Center serves as a multi-disciplinary hub connecting faculty and researchers wanting to work in the C5I area and is widely recognized as a premier source of knowledge and innovation to military and civilian authorities.

STAR-TIDES is a global knowledge-sharing network composed of people and organizations from government, the private sector, academia, NGOs, and other entities.  STAR-TIDES pulls diverse skills together quickly to address emergent problems with the goals of:

  • building sustainable resilience,
  • improved emergency responsiveness, and
  • promoting useful interactions among experts in a variety of fields.
