March, 2025:
We are proud to announce that Professor Peggy Brouse of the C5I Center has been honored with the prestigious statewide Outstanding Cybersecurity Educator Award. This accolade, recognizing excellence in cybersecurity education, was presented at the annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion event in Lexington, Virginia, hosted by the Virginia Military Institute.
Professor Brouse’s visionary leadership led to the creation of the world’s first Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security Engineering program in 2015. Her dedication has transformed it into one of the university’s most sought-after majors, graduating hundreds of students annually. In 2021, the program’s growth warranted the establishment of a dedicated department, reflecting her unwavering commitment to fostering the next generation of cyber defenders.
“Professor Brouse designed the program to use a systems engineering approach to cyber security integration in systems development, and she hasn’t wavered from that vision,” said Professor Paulo Costa, chair of the Cyber Security Engineering department. “This award confirms how Peggy has kept Mason Engineering as one of the nation’s most innovative cybersecurity schools.”
Please join us in congratulating Professor Brouse on this well-deserved recognition and celebrating her ongoing contributions to the field of cybersecurity education.
