Oct 2014 The C4I Center hosted a NATO MSG-138 Workshop on Command and Control-Simulation Interoperability (C2SIM) at Founder’s Hall on GMU’s Arlington Campus. Presentations were provided by MITRE, the French government agency DGA, the Norwegian Battle Laboratory, the German defense laboratory Fraunhofer-FKIE, the GMU C4I Center, the Norwegian Defense Research agency FFI, and Thales corporation of the United Kingdom. Sep 2014 The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) formed the Command and Control – Simulation Interoperability (C2SIM) Product Development Group to develop a second generation of standards, expected to take the place of current standards Military Scenario Definition Language) MSDL and Coalition Battle Management Language (C-BML). Co-chairs of the new group are Dr. Mark Pullen of the C4I Center and Mr. Kevin Galvin of Thales-UK.
May 2014 The MSG-085 conducted a demonstration for the International Forum for the Military Training, Education and Simulation Sectors (ITEC) in May 2014 in Cologne, Germany.
April 2014 Coalition Battle Management Language (C-BML) standards were approved by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO).
December 2013 The MSG-085 conducted a demostration at Fort Leavenworth in December 2013 using the WISE-SBML server as well as other BML servers and a number of C2 and simulation systems.

October 2013 Dr. Mark Pullen presented the paper titled “Multi-Schema and Multi-Server Advances for C2-Simulation Interoperation in MSG-085” at the NATO Modeling and Simulation Symposium in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Pullen was lead author with co-authors from Germany, Sweden, the UK and the USA.
September 2013 A Tiger Team that included GMU recommended merger of SISO’s Military Scenario Definition Language (MSDL) and C-BML groups; the recommendation was adopted unanimously.
June 2013 GMU organized a track in the International Command and Control Research and Technology Symposium (ICCRTS) held in Alexandria, Virginia. Six technical papers (including two from
GMU) and four industry briefings were included. An ICCRTS Plenary address was presented by Dr. Hans Jense of the NATO Communications and Information Agency.
June 2013 The NATO MSG-085 met in Oslo, Norway to develop details for their Final Demonstration, which will be held at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A new capability to interoperate BML heterogeneous servers was
demonstrated by the German FKIE team working with the GMU team. The WISE-SBMLserver that enables the interoperation and also performs schema translation among the various subgroups of MSG-085 was developed by GMU with support from Saab Corporation of Sweden.
April 2013 The GMU team had a leading role in resolving issues arising from balloting the SISO Coalition BML (C-BML) Phase 1 standard, which was then approved by the C-BML Product Development Group and is expected to become a standard during 2013.
February 2013 The GMU and Saab teams participated in NATO MSG-085 meeting at Wachtberg Germany to plan that group’s Final Demonstration and coordinate with key members of the Multilateral Interoperability Program the future convergence of BML with C2 Interoperability standards.
