Collaboration Opportunities in U.S.–Korea Education and Research through C5I Center Korea
ABOUT THE SEMINARJoin the C5I Center and the Cyber Security Engineering (CYSE) Department for a seminar with Dr. Insub Shin, Director of C5I Center Korea, on U.S.–Korea education and research collaboration. Dr. Shin will introduce the center’s mission, strategic priorities, and partnerships with Korean defense, industry, and research organizations. He will discuss the C5I Certificate Program, the Incheon Defense Industry Cluster, KEIT Korea–U.S. Joint R&D Initiatives, and potential joint research and education initiatives with KAIST. Research opportunities include C4I, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and drones, with particular attention to command and control of drones and counter-drone systems, targeting architectures, and modeling and simulation to support command decisions. He will also discuss AI applications across these areas and autonomous driving. The seminar will conclude with a discussion of how George Mason faculty and researchers can get involved. |

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Insub Shin is Director of C5I Center Korea at George Mason University Korea and President of the Korea Defense Information and Communications Association. A retired Brigadier General in the Republic of Korea Army, he has served as Presidential Secretary for Cybersecurity in the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, Director of the R&D Center at ROK Cyber Command, and Director of the Information Technology Brigade at ROK Defense Intelligence Command.
His professional experience also includes service as Director of Architecture at George Mason University’s C4I & Cyber Center, Associate Professor of Systems Engineering at George Mason University Korea, and Director of the C4I & Cyber Center at Huneed Technologies. His expertise spans C4ISR systems and command and control, cybersecurity and cyber operations, defense systems architecture and systems engineering, and U.S.–Korea defense R&D collaboration.
He holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University, an M.S. in Telecommunications Management from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Korea Military Academy.
